Grab your blankets and join Dani Mejia for a relaxed 2-hour creative session at Stanley Park! start with warm-ups, then get into drawing while soaking in the forest surroundings.

About the event

Like art? Love Nature? Looking for community? Experience the beauty of Stanley Park at golden hour during this 2 and a half mixed media drawing session focused on botanical art.

The session will explore techniques for capturing leaves, flowers, and other foliage in vibrant detail. For the first half, we’ll explore the park to stay warm and get the creativity flowing, starting with warm-up exercises and creative games. Then, we’ll settle in for a longer drawing session where you’ll have the opportunity to explore your own unique style and get messy.

You’ll be led by, Dani Mejia, an artist who’s passionate about connecting with the outdoors. I’ll guide you through simple yet effective techniques for adding texture and depth to your botanical sketches, using a variety of sketching materials and watercolors. All levels are welcome!

  • Location: Stanley Park (specific meeting point provided upon registration)
  • Date: Wednesday June 3rd
  • Time: 5:30pm- 8:00pm

Itinerary

5:30-6:00: Intro and walk into the forest
6:00- 6:45: Warm ups + games
6:45- 7:00: Technique class
7:00- 7:45 Free draw
7:45- 8:00 Closing circle + walk out of the forest

What Is Provided:

Sketchbook to take home
Pencils, pens, colour pencils, crayons, and watercolours
Cover from the elements (if needed)
A bunch of other creative souls
A fun time!

What to Bring:

Comfortable walking shoes
Warm clothing (layers, jacket, hat)
Water bottle
Blanket, mat, or camping chair to sit on (they will be moving, so only lightweight chairs are recommended)
Snacks

This session runs rain or shine, so participants should be sure to dress for the weather!

Becky is a multidisciplinary designer, illustrator, and creative with a passion for blending art and the outdoors. With over a decade of experience in design, content creation, and creative leadership, she has collaborated with brands such as SkiBig3, The North Face, and Travel Alberta to bring compelling visual storytelling to life. Originally from England and now based in Canada, Becky embraces adventure—whether hiking, skiing, or exploring new landscapes—all of which serve as inspiration for her work. Her experience spans multiple industries, from reforestation to tourism, leading projects in branding, media, and illustration. Through her work, she continually seeks innovative ways to connect people with nature, inspiring better mental well-being and climate action.
