Attention all budding assistants! Ever wondered how to break through that invisible barrier: in order to get the job, you need to show that you can do the job, but you can’t show that you can do the job without getting the job? CAPIC Vancouver is here to help.
Join CAPIC Vancouver on Sunday, May 26th, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm at Flashpoint Rentals for a hands-on workshop. Established, working assistants and photographers will guide participants through setting up and tearing down various gear. Attendees should come prepared to work as if going on set, wearing a black t-shirt, black jeans, sturdy shoes, and gloves. This hands-on experience involves actively setting up and tearing down the gear to become more familiar with it. Dress in layers to accommodate working both indoors and outdoors.
Upon completing the workshop, participants can be added to Flashpoint’s Assistant list.
Don’t miss this valuable event to learn, connect, and advance your assistant career. Space is limited to ensure all participants get maximum time with the gear.

Frequently asked questions
Black looks great at this time of year. Also, you don’t show up in reflections on set which increases your chances of being invited back. Dress for the weather, layers are always good. Some activities will take place outside, some indoors.
A good assistant is always prepared. Start with a notebook and pen to take notes, have a flashlight with fresh batteries, knife, a razor knife, tape measure, bulldog clips, sash cord, good pair of work gloves. Bring business cards, this is a great networking event too.
You should have a sturdy meal before you arrive so you are ready for the day. We will have some light snacks. This is not the film industry, there will be no catering truck.
On a Sunday morning there should be plenty of street parking available around Flashpoint. Give yourself enough time to find a spot and get settled. “If you are not 10 minutes early, you are late” Event starts promptly at 9am.
