@rachael_ashe

Rachael Ashe is a photographer-turned-multidisciplinary artist, self-taught in the intricate art of paper-cutting and sculpting. Her work includes hand-cut artwork, mixed media collage, and paper installations. Drawing from the intersection of art, craft, and design, Rachael credits her past role as a photographer at the Textile Museum of Canada, along with her deep exposure to handcrafted textiles, as a continuing influence on her work with paper.

She will be sharing insights about her participation in 36 Days of Type in 2022, discussing her unique approach to the project and how it has inspired her ongoing exploration of patterns.

@bigtopsignarts

John Lennig began his journey in the early 1960s, mastering letter styles, layouts, and brushwork while attending the Showcard and Sign Painting course at San Diego City College. After relocating to Canada in the mid-60s, John worked as a Sign Maker, primarily using brushes, later transitioning to Vinyl as it became the dominant sign-making technology in the late 1980s.

In 2000, John sold his shop and joined The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) as a Sign Writer, creating hand-painted signs for movies and TV shows. In 2013, due to an autoimmune disease, he transitioned from full-time work to taking on select projects, including sign painting jobs and workshops across the Lower Mainland, where he introduces others to the world of Sign Writing.
