QuestCoast Studios x Filmable Director Workshop

QuestCoast Studios and Filmable are teaming up to offer a rare opportunity for four local directors to refine their craft through a one-week intensive Directing Workshop. With the crew, gear, and post-production fully provided, participants can focus entirely on directing while everything else is handled.

Hands-on Mentorship
Each director will have the support of an experienced mentor from Vancouver’s film community throughout the workshop, providing guidance every step of the way.

Scripts & Preparation
Participants will receive a pre-written script and a full day to prepare with the support of the provided teams. Props, sets, and costumes will all be supplied.

Shooting & Editing
Directors will have 4 hours to shoot their scene and an additional 4 hours to edit.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to:

• Emerging directors with a unique voice and vision.
• Creators eager to develop their skills through personalized, one-on-one mentorship.
• Directors passionate about learning the full filmmaking process, from pre-production to working with actors.

Requirements

• Applicants must be directors based in British Columbia.
• One completed project outside of film school is required (Short, Feature, Documentary, TV, Webseries).

Applicant Selection

A jury of industry professionals from QuestCoast Studios, Filmable, and The Collective Bunch will review the applications. Directors will be selected based on merit, creativity, and overall fit for the workshop. The four selected directors will be notified by email, and the results will be announced on QuestCoast Studios and Filmable’s platforms.

Workshop Contents & Deliverables

Each director will be provided with a one-page script to interpret and direct, with the assistance of a cast and crew provided by QuestCoast Studios and Filmable. The workshop includes guidance in pre-production, production, and post-production from experienced mentors. By the end of the workshop, each director will have produced a short film scene that will be showcased at a community screening event.

Submission Guidelines

• Applicants must submit a portfolio or showreel along with their application.
• The official application form must be completed and submitted by November 1st, 2024.
• Only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.

Time Commitment

The workshop will take place from November 18th to November 22nd, 2024, from 9 AM to 5 PM. Exact times will vary based on assigned shooting slots. Participants must commit to the entire workshop schedule, including preparation, production, and post-production phases.

Community Screening & Mixer

Not a director? No problem! Whether you’re a director, industry professional, or simply passionate about film, you’re invited to join us on the final day at QuestCoast Studios. The event will feature a screening of the directors’ scenes, followed by a panel discussion on transitioning from short films to features. Stay for the social mixer to network and connect with filmmakers and industry professionals.
